Buttoning Board and Button Squares

This may be a repeat but I like these so much here goes.......   Removing and attaching the fabric pieces with slits in them is easier than actually buttoning and may be considered a pre-buttoning skill builder.  I sewed the large piece of blue fabric to cover a sturdy piece of cardboard.
I cut the pink circles out of a detergent bottle and punched holes with a heavy duty puncher from an office supply store. Next, I sewed the pink buttons onto the fabric. Grade by using more or less of these. The student has to stabilize the pink pieces while attaching the fabric (or removing the fabric) and this is a bit easier than actually using buttons. The red and blue button squares shown here are large, the fabric is soft and feels good and is a bit stretchy making it easier and hopefully a bit fun to manipulate. You can set up sequencing containers to either button or unbutton these, depending on skill level. This is a lot less stressful than manipulating fasteners on clothing and the squares are easy to see on the table as opposed to on clothing.
